Bay Window Treatment Solution

We all know that there are many, many options for window treatments for bay windows.  You're only limited by your imagination!

Valance mixed with drapery panels
From my workroom

These are the most popular options around, but my most recent client wanted something just a little bit different.

Here is the bay window in her breakfast area.

My client has a lovely modern vibe going on in her home.  She prefers clean, tailored lines with an uncluttered look while still having an inviting feel.

We ruled out cornices, valances and roman shades.  She liked the idea of drapery panels, but didn't want the expense or the look of window treatment hardware running across the entire top of her windows.

We decided to go with narrow drapery panels mounted on medallions.  Instead of traditional drapery medallions, my client chose to use oversized, hammered nickle cabinet knobs.

Here are the installers at work.
(By the way, if you need a terrific installer, let me know.  Rodney is beyond awesome!)

And here is the finished look.

What do you think?

  8. Replying to Shirley's question. Yes this is PB's Vanessa. I bought the duvet set but used the shams and a silk Dupioni panel in blue smoke for Suzy to make the cornices. Blue Smoke Silk panels were also used on both windows flanking the bed. We hung them high which added a lot of height to the sitting area Suzy did a fabulous job on the cornices to tie the sitting area and bedroom together...very professionally done!!! She's a sweetheart!!!!

  17. Yes, one is only limited by one's imagination. I love the window seat idea, too. Your client did well. The narrow drapes soften the space without taking away from the view and natural light. Beautifully executed.

  25. Valuable post, The most important advantage of using the window treatment is protection. The shutters, blinds or curtains, whatever you choose will protect you from the heat of the sun.

  29. Wow! The window treatment transformed the simple room into a classy and elegant one. It is very beautiful. I love how the draperies dimmed the room a little bit. Its color also matches the wall painting and the furniture in the room. Terrific job. Congrats!

  30. Since the window is already fixed for privacy issues, the window treatment is added just for style. And what a stylish-looking area does the breakfast room look now! The windows no longer look bare, and the draperies don’t clash with the modern vibe that your client wants. It’s just perfect!
